Salisbury has one of the finest medieval Cathedrals in Britain. Open daily throughout the year, volunteers provide guided tours highlighting the Cathedral's Gothic architecture (built between 1220 and 1258), Magna Carta (1215AD), unique 13th century frieze of bible stories in the Chapter House and Europe's oldest working clock. (1386AD). The graceful spire rises above the sweeping lawns of the tranquil Cathedral Close. Everyone is welcome to join the daily services, with boy and girl choristers, continuing a tradition of worship that goes back nearly 800 years. For more information see Salisbury Cathedral.

Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum is the home of the award-winning, redesigned Stonehenge gallery, the Monkton Deverill gold torc, and the now famous Warminster Jewel. Displays include Early Man, the Romans and Saxons, history of Old Sarum and Salisbury (with the renowned Giant and Hob Nob), the Pitt Rivers collection, pottery, porcelain and Wedgwood in beautiful 17th century rooms, a pre-NHS surgery, costume, lace and embroidery. There are pictures, including Turner watercolours, throughout the Museum. Special exhibitions all year.

The Wardrobe, with its many period features, dates from 1254. It is known as the Wardrobe having been used as a clothing and document store by bishops in the 14th century. The Wardrobe is now the museum of the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment with displays telling the absorbing story of the Royal Berkshire Regiment, the Wiltshire Regiment and the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment. Visitors can also stroll in the landscaped gardens leading down to the River Avon with views of the famous Water Meadows. 

Salisbury Racecourse is one of England's oldest racecourses, racing having taken place at the picturesque downland course since the 16th century. Salisbury stages a number of meetings during the summer when it successfully combines quality racing with a friendly and enjoyable day out.
