Wellington is a friendly town set in a wide valley between the beautiful Blackdown Hills, seven miles west of Taunton on the River Tone. The name is synonymous with the famous "Iron Duke", victor of the battle of Waterloo. The town owes much of its growth and prosperity to the Fox family, who developed integrated woollen mills, and still make the best West of England flannel today. Visit the Fox Mill shop with its fine selection of woollen and worsted cloth.

Wellington Monument is prominent on the skyline of the scarp of the Blackdown Hills, a 175-foot column, erected to commemorate his victory. At night it is illuminated and is a landmark for miles around. The monument has steps which can be climbed, but not for the faint hearted! Visitors are rewarded with a superb view from the Blackdown Hills, across some of Somerset's most breathtaking countryside.

Wellington possess an interesting Museum & Local History Society at 28 Fore Street.

The exhibits in the museum feature famous firms and individuals that are or were based in Wellington. There are displays on The Duke of Wellington and his association with the town.
